Rainbow-1

A Mixed Media Exploration, an Explosive Radiance in Rainbow-1

Rainbow‑1 was one of the first moments where I began to understand how deeply time, memory, and transformation were woven into my creative process. When I created this piece, I wasn’t thinking about clockwork as a symbol in the way I do now — I was responding instinctively to the beauty of old mechanisms, the weight of materials that had lived other lives, and the quiet stories held inside objects we often overlook.

The Framework, a multi-layered structure.

Layering Time, a kaleidoscope of memories.

Around the face of the canvas, I layered vibrant rainbow colours and embedded small objects — fragments from broken items, pieces of everyday life that had lost their function but not their meaning. These became symbols of fleeting moments, tiny memories suspended in time.
As light moves across the surface, shadows and reflections shift, reminding me of how experiences change as we revisit them. Time transforms everything it touches: relationships, places, memories. They fade, but they also evolve, becoming something new, something that shapes who we are.

A meditation on time.

Rainbow‑1 became a meditation on the passage of time — its beauty, its complexity, and its inevitability. By blending these materials and textures, I found myself honouring the mechanics of time while also exploring my own relationship with it. The piece invites viewers to pause, to reflect on the moments that have shaped them, and to consider how time weaves itself into the fabric of our lives.

The Symbolism of Clockwork

The clockwork elements in Rainbow‑1 hold a deeper significance for me. Every gear, every cog, every tiny mechanism represents a moment — an ending, a beginning, a transition. They evoke nostalgia, pulling me back to times when life felt particularly fragile or meaningful.

Across cultures, the clock has always been a powerful symbol. In Western traditions, it represents order and control. In Eastern philosophies, time is cyclical, a continuous flow rather than a straight line. Indigenous perspectives often tie time to nature, to seasons and cycles rather than minutes and hours. I’ve always been fascinated by these different interpretations, and Rainbow‑1 became a way for me to explore them visually.

In modern life, clocks can feel both comforting and oppressive — tools that help us organise our days, yet reminders of how quickly those days pass. In art and literature, clocks often mark turning points, moments of realisation or transformation. I felt that same energy while creating this piece.

Conclusion

Rainbow‑1 is, for me, a tapestry of time — a blend of memory, material, and meaning. It marks an early point in my artistic journey, a moment when I began to understand how deeply I was drawn to the mechanics of existence and the stories held within objects. It invites viewers into that exploration, encouraging them to reflect on their own relationship with time, change, and the moments that shape a life.
