Orange Vortex-2
Orange Vortex‑2 emerged from my fascination with movement — not just physical motion, but the invisible forces that shape our inner and outer worlds. When I began this piece, I wasn’t trying to depict anything literal. I wanted to create a visual field that felt alive, a space where energy spirals, gathers, and transforms. The result became a vortex that feels both cosmic and intimate, a moment suspended just before everything is pulled into its centre.
Part of the Vortex Sequence — An Evolution in Form
This painting is part of my ongoing Vortex Sequence, a body of work that grew out of earlier pieces built from square, layered compositions. Those earlier works explored structure, containment, and the quiet tension of forms pressing against their boundaries. Over time, that structure began to loosen. The squares softened, the edges dissolved, and the compositions naturally evolved into spirals — forms that move, expand, and collapse inward.
Orange Vortex‑2 represents a turning point in that evolution: a shift from outward‑building geometry to inward‑pulling motion, from stability to flow, from containment to release
A Dance Between Chaos and Order
The swirling forms in Orange Vortex‑2 came from a desire to explore the tension between chaos and structure. Spirals have always intrigued me — they appear everywhere, from galaxies to seashells, from storms to the patterns of thought. In this painting, the spirals act as both motion and metaphor. They suggest expansion and contraction, the push and pull of forces that shape our lives.
The vortex at the centre became the anchor — the eye of the storm, the point where everything converges.
Movement as Meditation
As I worked, the painting took on a hypnotic quality. The spirals felt like currents of energy, bending space around them. They could be vast, like the arms of a galaxy, or microscopic, like the structures hidden within cells. That duality — the macro and the micro — is something I love about abstraction. It allows the viewer to drift between scales, to see something universal and something deeply personal at the same time.
The vortex itself feels like a passageway, a tunnel into something unseen. It’s an invitation to look inward as much as outward.
Time, Cycles, and the Pull of the Unknown
The motion in Orange Vortex‑2 carries a sense of time — slow, deliberate, continuous. It feels like an event that began long before the viewer arrives and will continue long after they leave. That cyclical quality mirrors the rhythms of nature and the patterns of our own emotional lives. We move in spirals too, returning to ideas, memories, and desires in new forms.
The central vortex became a symbol of that pull — the gravitational force of the unknown, the place where transformation begins.
The Power of Orange
The dominant orange in this piece is more than a colour; it’s an energy. Orange has always felt like a life force to me — vibrant, warm, and full of momentum. It carries the heat of red and the optimism of yellow, sitting right at the intersection of passion and possibility.
In Orange Vortex‑2, the orange feels like a surge of vitality, a creative spark that draws everything toward the centre. It’s the colour of movement, of change, of something about to happen.
The Fragility of the Blue Bubbles
The translucent blue bubbles drifting across the surface became the painting’s most delicate elements. They contrast sharply with the intensity of the orange, offering moments of coolness and calm. Their fragility suggests something fleeting — thoughts, memories, or moments of clarity that float through consciousness before being swept into the vortex.
Their transparency speaks to impermanence. Nothing stays still. Nothing stays separate. Everything is in motion.
Layers of Meaning, Layers of Motion
Although the painting appears simple at first glance — a vortex pulling forms inward — the layers reveal a more complex story. The outer spirals build momentum, the inner spirals tighten, and the vortex gathers everything into its centre. This layering mirrors the way energy accumulates, how events unfold, how transformation happens gradually and then suddenly.
It’s not a single moment; it’s a process.
Abstraction as Emotional Language
Orange Vortex‑2 is abstract, but it carries emotional weight. It speaks to the forces that shape us — the visible and invisible, the internal and external. The vortex can be a psychological pull, a creative impulse, a moment of transition, or the gravitational force of something inevitable.
Abstraction allows me to strip away the literal and focus on the essence: movement, energy, transformation.
A Conversation With the Infinite
The contrast between the vibrant orange and the cool blue creates a balance between intensity and fragility. Together, they form a dialogue about creation and dissolution, passion and stillness, chaos and calm. The spirals draw the viewer inward, making them part of the motion rather than a distant observer.
This participatory quality is what I love most about the piece — it invites you into the vortex.
Conclusion — A Meditation on Transformation
Orange Vortex‑2 is more than a visual composition; it is a meditation on the forces that move through us and around us. The swirling patterns, the central pull, the delicate bubbles — they all speak to the cycles of change that define existence. We are always in motion, always being reshaped, always drawn toward something new.
This painting is my reflection on that perpetual motion — the beauty, the uncertainty, and the quiet power of transformation.
