I’ve never stopped creating.
I’m Lynne, a mixed‑media artist who loves texture, storytelling and giving overlooked materials a new life.
When I look back, I don’t remember a time when I wasn’t making something.
Some of my happiest childhood memories are of sitting around the family table with my twin sister and two older sisters, colouring while Mum sat with us. It wasn’t something she did simply to keep us occupied—it was something we enjoyed together. Looking back, I realise those moments sparked a lifelong love of creativity.
By the age of eight, Mum was already trusting me with a paintbrush as we decorated together. She encouraged us to have a go, to learn by doing and never to be afraid of making something ourselves. As I grew older, I was always drawing—copying pictures from newspapers, filling sketchbooks with ideas and, at one point, even painting a full-sized motorcycle mural across my bedroom wall.
This is me working on an interactive mural commissioned for a primary school. The mural included tactile and moving elements designed so all children—including a visually impaired pupil—could enjoy and explore it together. During this time I also created several interactive murals for local schools, combining painting with tactile and moving elements to encourage children of all abilities to explore and play together. Those years gave me the opportunity to explore new techniques, experiment with different materials and discover my own artistic voice.
Life changed, but creativity never left me.
As life became busier, raising four children naturally took priority, and art often had to take a back seat. But creativity never disappeared. Whether I was Knitting, Card making, decorating homes, making furniture from recycled cardboard, renovating our house alongside my husband or growing vegetables, I was always making something with my hands.
When my youngest child was still a baby, it was my husband’s encouragement that gave me the confidence to return to education and finally study art formally. While caring for my family—and breastfeeding in between studying—I completed my A-Level in Art, Graphic Design and Printing, followed by a BTEC in Art and eventually an Honours Degree in Fine Art.
Those years gave me the opportunity to explore new techniques, experiment with different materials and discover my own artistic voice.
Life became busy again, helping to run our family landscaping business and continuing home renovation projects, so painting once more had to wait. It is only in more recent years, following my husband’s retirement, that I’ve been able to dedicate myself fully to creating artwork again.
Today my paintings combine acrylics, texture and mixed media, often developing in ways I never completely plan. I enjoy allowing each piece to evolve naturally, leaving room for imagination and unexpected discoveries along the way.
I have always been fascinated by giving overlooked materials a new purpose. I still find myself collecting interesting objects during walks—bits of metal, textured materials or anything with character. My family often joke that I must have been a magpie in a former life because if I spot something shiny, I simply can’t resist bringing it home. Those discoveries often find their way into my artwork, adding texture, history and another layer of storytelling.
I hope my paintings encourage people to slow down, look a little longer and discover something personal within each piece. Every viewer brings their own experiences, and I love that a painting can mean something completely different to everyone who sees it.
For me, creating has never been just about making art.
It’s simply part of who I am.
